On the wind test field Grevenbroich a so-called permanent measurement mast is erected. It serves as a reference mast for the entire test field and for all installed wind turbines, which are thoroughly tested. In order to refer the data of the reference mast to the respective turbine location, the norm specifies that wind has to be measured at different heights also at the installation site. In other words: The aim is to find out how, when, where and at which speed the wind will blow at the turbine. Therefore, reliable information on the wind at the turbine location are required. AWP: location 7.
Furthermore, the norm includes that certain wind events such as storms or gusts of wind are to be registered. Already in early December 2018 the windtest grevenbroich gmbh (wtg) and the AWP engineering team managed to register almost all events. During a meeting at the beginning of the new year the partners solemnly stated that the measurements have been definitely concluded. This will form the basis for the planned measurements at the future Vertical Sky® turbine.

This project requires many experts. The AWP technician team lead by Detlef Bengs discusses the measurement of load and vibration with wtg.

The technician team early in the morning. Confident and in a good mood.
... in order to get things straight for ourselves and future customers, AWP has also ordered a LIDAR measurement, which is seen as an independent reference.
Wrapped in warm clothes the teams visit location 7. In the background, the erecting of the meteorological mast can be seen: the permanent measurement mast, which surveys the entire wind test field and the temporary mast at the location of the future pilot turbine Vertical Sky® A 32.
