A2 – Wind tunnel model

The fully functional, scaled-down Vertical Sky® system, which Agile Wind Power used for measurements in the wind tunnel, is being loaned to EPFL in Lausanne. The system will be used for further research work at the technical university.

The model of the Vertical Sky® system in the wind tunnel.

We are very pleased about the collaboration with EPFL, especially that the renowned university is dedicated to the topic. Research into vertical wind turbines with controlled rotor blades began some time ago and led to a doctoral thesis. The significantly increased efficiency of the turbine with controlled blades was demonstrated.

Further research is focusing on the pitch control software. The aim is to find out how AI can continuously optimize the control system and thus achieve even higher efficiency levels. Agile Wind Power has been working on AI-controlled optimization for some time now, and we are in close contact with EPFL in this regard. The turbine, which has a diameter of around 2 m, is due to return to Dübendorf towards the end of 2024. We are looking forward to the experience and knowledge that EPFL will bring with it.
